Africa Union Health Ministers Call for Increased Investments to Rid Africa of Neglected Tropical Diseases
ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA, April 29, 2013— The Sixth Conference of African Union Ministers of Health (CAMH6) concluded on April 26, 2013 with a strong call for African countries and development partners to increase support for neglected tropical disease (NTD) control and elimination programs. This call for action supports the World Health Organization’s (WHO) goal to control or eliminate ten of the most common NTDs by 2020.

Earlier this week, END7 released its newest short film, “In the Rough,” documenting how a community in Kono District, Sierra Leone is working to end schistosomiasis, one of the seven most common neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). The film shares the story of a diamond miner who was once infected, but has since been treated with the help of health care workers in his village.

Today the END7 campaign’s latest video “How to Shock a Celebrity” won the 2013 DoGooder ImpactX Award for the nonprofit video that had the most real-world advocacy impact in the past year. We are featured alongside other great cause-oriented videos from the Rainforest Alliance, Pathfinder International and Raf Bauer.
