Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases Announces Winners for the 2010 Just 50 Cents Campus Challenge

George Washington University Students Sweep Contest for Individual and Group Campaigns

April 6, 2010: After months of creative fundraising efforts and hard work to raise awareness of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), George Washington University students came in first place for both the individual and group campaigns for the Global Network’s signature grassroots initiative, the Just 50 Cents Campus Challenge.

Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases Applauds Obama Administration’s Commitment to Controlling and Eliminating NTDs

The following is a statement from Dr. Peter Hotez, President, Sabin Vaccine Institute on the release of the Obama Administration’s FY11 Budget:

For far too long, devastating, debilitating and often deadly neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) impacting more than 1.4 billion people of the world’s poorest people have been ignored. If President Obama’s proposed FY11 budget is adopted, NTDs will no longer be neglected.

Neglected Tropical Diseases Not Limited to Tropics: Diseases Found in the Indigenous Peoples of the Arctic

Demonstrating that the burden of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) is not just dependent on climate, but mainly related to incidence of poverty, a new paper published in the open-access journal PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases details the large number of neglected infections of poverty in the Arctic region and calls for greater research into these devastating, debilitating and sometimes deadly diseases in the region.

Earthquake in Haiti

As we know first-hand from our work in fighting neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Haiti, the impact of this devastating earthquake will be felt for years to come. It is incumbent on all of us to do our part to help the people of Haiti get through this tragic situation.
